Only a few years ago, if you’d told someone they’d be managing hybrid teams made up of humans and AI agents or that they might fall in love with an AI companion, they would’ve taken your car keys and called you a taxi home.
And yet, here we are.
I’ve been brainstorming these ideas for a while, writing them down with the thought that they could eventually turn into longer-form articles. Not too long ago, most of them would have sounded ludicrous. Now, many are already reality.
I’ve compiled them into a raw, unfiltered list of how AI may impact different aspects of our lives. I’ve intentionally left out my own conclusions - those belong to you.
Lifestyle
AI layer in mobile devices that interfaces with your apps. Users no longer interact directly with apps. Instead, they talk in natural language with an AI assistant, which decides what apps to use to make the request happen. Ex.: Ask assistant to call you an Uber → Assistant uses the Uber app and makes the request in your name.
Smart-home concept completely redefined. You can now “talk” to your house. All appliances are interconnected, and information is gathered through sensors. AI makes decisions based on data pulled from smart devices: the fridge is restocked, the ambient temp is adjusted, the robot vacuum is sent to clean a spot in the kitchen, the plants are watered, the cat is fed.
Humanoid robots handle the rest of the tasks that appliances can’t cover.
Autonomous vehicles become the default. Fewer people are driving. Driving becomes more of a weekend hobby. Combustion engine cars gradually become museum pieces.
AI companionship becomes a go-to option for millions of people. Depression runs higher, social skills run lower, and the virtual “love” industry becomes big business.
AI alter-egos virtually date each other to test compatibility, so you won’t have to go through that awkward first date.
Work
AI is integrated in virtually every work process. People become managers of AI agents - custodian of tasks which they delegate to AI. Human workers become less specialized, having only to understand the high-level tasks, not every detail.
AI is used heavily in problem solving, with less and less human interaction. For those left in the workplace, soft skills become more valuable than ever, especially around inter-human dynamics (aka office politics).
Creativity in combining tools for problem solving is what gets rewarded, not deep expert skills. AI “experts” can work together to solve complex problems. Ex.: accounting and legal AI agents work together to resolve an insurance claim.
“Business in a box” solutions become commercially available. You can deploy a business in minutes. AI agents replace many employees. Companies with a single human worker become common.
Blue-collar jobs like electrician, plumber, painter, or construction worker are in high demand and better paid than before. The same goes for jobs that involve building and maintaining IT infrastructure: network cabling, fiber optics, WiFi, HVAC, hardware installation and servicing (storage and servers), access control, fire suppression.
Arts & Entertainment
AI-generated music for public spaces. Business owners save money on licensing.
AI-generated ads seamlessly integrated into content like movies and series. Actors appear using certain products, even if those scenes weren’t part of the original version. Ads are dynamically generated based on user data.
Modifying existing productions - changing scenes, updating old movies, even altering the narrative. “Washing” scenes from older films: removing characters, changing dialogue, inserting new content.
Spotify (and similar services) generates music just for you, based on your preferences.
Dead actors “act” in new movies.
It’s common place for AI artists to become more popular than living ones.
Sports competitions with AI players - robots battling it out or running track, AI drives race cars.
Politics
Campaigning relies heavily on AI for targeting and influencing. Algorithms are exploited to promote division in society.
Individuals are fed narratives based on their data profiles, effectively isolating them in informational bubbles where they can be more easily persuaded.
Corporate–state collusion is frequent. Large tech providers are heavily involved in politics and influence policies that favor them.
Democracy is seen as threat to those in power. Technology is used to shift power to the few by promoting anti-democratic agendas. The masses are constantly manipulated to gain popular support.
AI is also used to detect and counter manipulation - flagging deepfakes, identifying coordinated campaigns, and exposing misinformation in near real time.
Education
High pressure from the tech world to push AI into schools from an early age. AI-assisted education leading to a decrease in critical thinking and creativity.
The one percenters continue to educate their children in low-tech environments, at the same time pushing AI adoption to the masses.
AI teachers and tutors partly replace human teachers. Human teachers may become a rare commodity. A new type of inequality emerges: access to quality “offline” education.
Children learn to game AI teachers through prompt engineering - the equivalent of social engineering, but for AI.
Individual EQ levels drops in communities that heavily rely on technology for education.
A new generation forms that is heavily reliant on technology for everyday tasks. A new type of “low class” takes shape - over-reliant on technology and increasingly dependent on it.
Smoking and drinking are replaced by screen time and AI-generated content.
Critical thinking declines (I know, I’ve mentioned this before. Can’t mention it enough though).
And then there’s AI in warfare, but that’s a story that deserves it’s own separate page.
